Steemfest entails 5 days and many activities, foodies, drinkers. This all costs money. With a ticket to SteemFest you get an all access wristband.
Longer answer:
SteemFest is a non-for profit event. The idea behind the event is to be as inclusive as possible and to facilitate that as many people as possible can attend the event, by keeping the entry price as low as possible. Sponsorships are used to discount the minimum ticketprice for minnows & plankton level users (newbies) lower than the costprice.
SteemFest asks from those who did well on the platform or elsewhere to kindly judge themselves and buy a non-discounted ticket and really keep those available to those who really need to use those.

Quite some tickets are bought and given away by fellow Steem users and sponsors. In weekly updates I will always try to share an actual overview of current competitions running for SteemFest tickets.
